A Healthy Interest.
would anyone like to write a poem? if not, how does anyone think poem writing is ever going to happen? When Heidi and i took poetry extension classes in the underwater academy after our mother had almost killed herself teaching us the tricks of it we did about 2 weeks and then got sacked for bad poetry, unfortunately, through no fault of our own but just that Ced had (bad luck) turned up on the same course and some of our verses got a bit sarcastic. But that doesn't mean to say we didn't maintain a healthy interest.

i'm thinking, i'm thinking...
I'm thinking i'm sinking,
and I'M thinking, jammy, that SOMEONE hasn't been trying very hard. A terrapin never actually sinks, however much Enobarbus tries to make it happen. Have you been talking to him lately? - he can be quite seductive but always leaves you with a sense of failure, if you think about it.
the problem is with poetry writing you either have to be totally inspired or it comes over you by surprise so you actually speak in poems without realising it abit like speaking in tongues i think.
The more you try to write poetry the harder it gets - well it does for me anyway. The youve got to start worrying should i make it rhyme or not ? will they be expecting imagery and stuff , oh dear its quite quite worrying
yes, firefly, that is a fairly valid point. I'd like to dissect it, joint by joint. btw there is no actual LAW about imagery; you can absolutely ignore that stuff if you want. Just think of your favourite poem - usually a limerick with most people - and mix it up a bit. It's a start and we shouldn't feel ashamed of it. Howard, at one point, was quite friendly with WH Auden, and apparently he started out that way.
